Fall Favorites in Charleston, SC

October began in the most heartwarming way with a visit from my mom, sister, and one of our dear family friends! There’s something so special about sharing the magic of Charleston with the people you love most. From the moment they arrived, I couldn’t wait to show them around the city I now call home.

We spent our days wandering the cobblestone streets South of Broad, admiring pastel-colored homes along Rainbow Row, and soaking in the golden Lowcountry light that makes this place feel like a dream. Of course, no Charleston visit is complete without delicious meals and laughter over long conversations. Each moment truly felt like the perfect blend of southern charm and timeless beauty.

As a photographer, I’m always drawn to the textures, colors, and natural light of this city, and seeing it through the eyes of my family reminded me why Charleston truly captures the heart. It’s not just a destination; it’s an experience and a collection of moments that linger long after the trip ends.

Hosting loved ones reminded me how meaningful it is to slow down and savor connection. Whether you’re planning your first visit or returning again and again, Charleston has a way of making every visit feel like coming home.

Until our next adventure together, I’ll be treasuring the laughter, stories, and snapshots we created along the way!

The first stop was Basic Kitchen! This is my very favorite spot to eat out in Charleston, and I always make it a point to bring any visitors here for a good bite to eat.
Then, we headed across the street to grab a coffee at The Rise Coffee Bar inside of The Restoration Hotel.
Of course, no trip with this crew is complete without a stop at the local college bookstore, so into the College of Charleston Bookstore we went!
I just had to stop into Rebecca Illustrated‘s new store on King Street! I’m obsessed with it, and I love supporting Rebecca’s amazing journey.
We have a few book lovers in this group, so a few book store stops were necessary! Sweeter Than Fiction Bookshop and Buxton Books did the trick.
A stroll through South of Broad was good for the soul, as always!
The Battery is a must-see!
And of course, Rainbow Row!
Broad and Meeting Street!
I always take visitors for a walk through the College of Charleston campus. It’s beautiful and right in the heart of downtown!
Aside from the Basic Kitchen, our meals were all homemade. However, Off Track Ice Cream is a non-negotiable!
Sunday morning I was up and at it bright and early for a senior session with Carson! View all of my favorites from her session here: https://marykathleenphotography.com/carsons-chic-senior-portraits-in-the-heart-of-downtown-charleston-sc/
Once I returned from my session with Carson, we headed to The Boone Hall Pumpkin Patch!
We loved the tractor ride so much, we did it twice! The displays were incredible.
Coming here felt like a little slice of home.
Another stop for more books! This time at Barnes & Noble in the Mount Pleasant Towne Center.
A visit to the beach was a must! A quick stop to Folly Beach, but so worth it!
Megan’s request for this trip (aside from all the book stores) was to have breakfast at First Watch. We’ve been to different locations, and always have a good meal here.
After breakfast, we headed downtown to grab a coffee at Bitty & Beau’s, a human rights movement disguised as a coffee shop. I encourage you to visit one of their locations nationwide!
Then, we did a little more walking around South of Broad.
The Pineapple Fountain is a Charleston staple!
Waterfront Park is such a beautiful area to enjoy the coast.
Then it was time for the Charleston City Market!
And we ended the trip through a walk through The Charleston Place!
