Joyful, Connected, & Genuine

Mom & Daughter Weekend in Charleston, SC

There is always something magical about Charleston…the way the sunlight dances on the cobblestone streets, the quite hum of history in the air, and the gentle sway of the palm trees by the harbor. But this past weekend it wasn’t just the city that captured my heart, it was sharing it with my mom! In the busy rhythm of life, it’s so easy to forget about prioritizing more slow moments with the people you love. This weekend we hit pause and enjoyed every second of being together.

Charleston is beautiful and I love soaking it in during my time alone, but sharing it is my favorite part of being here. Getting to see the people I hold so close to my heart experience the joy of Charleston is like no other, and I’m so happy my mom and I got to spend more time together in the Lowcountry. My mom and I came to visit Charleston a few months before I moved here, and it felt surreal showing her around Charleston as an official local. We truly had the most wonderful time together, and neither of us wanted the weekend to end!

We took our time this weekend, no rush and no schedule, just letting the weekend unfold around us. There were a couple of things on our “must do” list for the weekend, but we really soaked up downtime together. We enjoyed lots of home-cooked meals, made a couple stops at Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams (duh!), and put the finishing touches on my apartment. I feel truly grateful for the simply joy of spending time together in my new home. A weekend I will never forget!

I picked my mom up Friday afternoon, we headed to my apartment for a home-cooked dinner, and then went straight to Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams…I’d say we kicked the weekend off in the very best way!
The #1 item on our list to accomplish this weekend (aside from eat Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams) was to get a plant for my living area. So, off to Hyams Garden Center we went!
We picked out the most perfect plant for my space!
“Welcome To The Jungle” was all we could say to each other on the car ride home 😂
After plant shopping we grabbed a coffee at Caviar & Bananas and headed to the Charleston Farmers Market. A stop at Sweet Jessamine Flower Truck was a must!
There are so many beautiful vendors!
The Piccolo Spoleto Outdoor Art Exhabition was also going on which was an amazing experience with tons of stunning artwork to see!
After walking around the Charleston Farmers Market and Piccolo Spoleto Outdoor Art Exhabition, we stopped into some favorite shops on King Street on our way to grab lunch. Rebecca and Lu and Millie Lynn Boutique are pictured here!
There was truly no other option than Basic Kitchen for lunch! It’s my favorite lunch spot in Charleston and it was the first meal my mom and I had when we came to visit before I moved.
A little stroll through the Charleston City Market was next!
A stop into Sweeter Than Fiction is never a bad idea!
After we wrapped up downtown, we headed to Target, T.J. Maxx, and HomeGoods to get a few more things for my apartment, and we found just what we were looking for!
I just had to sneak this photo in! FaceTime with our people! (Yes, in the middle of HomeGoods)
We got home just in time to enjoy the golden hour light my apartment gets…I feel so lucky!! The plant fits the space even better than I imagined.
On Sunday, we planned to soak up the sun at the beach, but Mother Nature had other plans. We weren’t at the beach 10 minutes when a storm rolled in, so back to the car we went…
Unfortunately, the storm wasn’t passing anytime soon, so we headed back to my apartment for a lazy Sunday.
One of the many home-cooked meals we had! I love cooking at home and it felt even more special to cook for my mom, too!
The storm couldn’t stop us from getting some more Jeni’s though!!
The storm let up just enough for us to take a nighttime walk through my neighborhood!
Monday morning called for making some yummy pancakes!
Before heading to North Charleston for some shopping, we walked through College of Charleston on our way to grab a coffee. Fun fact: I work at CofC!
We shopped until we dropped at Tanger Outlets Charleston, then headed home for some quality time before we had to go back to reality the next day.
My heart is as full as it has ever been <3
